Television host Steve Harvey has joined the “Solana Summer” NFT craze as the Solana crypto continues its upward trend. The rising network activity has seen Ether’s value rise by 13.7% in one month, and Solana surged 194% during the same period.
Harvey just changed his profile picture on Twitter to that of the Solana Monkey Business collection. The NFT collection comprises a set of 5,000 randomly generated cartoonish images of pixelated monkeys. The comedian joins a growing list of celebrities and institutions that have created a new form of cryptocurrency adoption.
Bored Ape Yacht Club and CryptoPunks Now on Demand
Profile pictures based on NFTs such as Bored Ape Yacht Club and CryptoPunks are now on the demand list. The two Ethereum based collections have been the most active NFT collections so far. The leading NFT marketplace OpenSea raked in over $3.4 billion worth of Ethereum in NFT sales giving the Ethereum blockchain the much-desired activity.
Apart from Ethereum, the Solana blockchain has benefitted immensely from the NFT boom. The so-called “Ethereum Killer” is seeing its best days after climbing from $37 to $197 in one month, mainly based on its integration to NFT trade. Solana is built on a more energy-efficient blockchain network and, compared to Ethereum, it can handle a larger transaction volume and charges lower fees.
What is Solana Monkey Business?
The Solana Monkey Business is a new set of NFT collectibles coming in soon after the Degenerate Ape Academy and Aurory. The latter two NFT collections are responsible for the increased activity on the Solana network, with their drops coinciding with the surge of the SOL coin in the past few weeks. The Solana NFT collectibles generated some $94 million worth of trade volume in the last week alone.
The Harvey-selected Solana Monkey Business came in third after raking in some $6.2 million over the previous seven days. YouTube personality and Rapper KSI has also placed the Solana Monkey Business NFT as the profile picture on his crypto-centric Twitter account. Harvey isn’t a newcomer to the NFT world, having partnered with NFT marketplace Rarible to sell his own NFTs to raise funds for charity.
